Dental anxiety is a very common and natural fear that many of us experience. There is no taking away from the fact that visiting the dentist can be a less than favorable experience. However, here at Chandler Dentistry we do everything in our power to ensure that you have the most comfortable and pleasurable experience at the dentist that's possible. We provide a wide-range of sedation dentistry options in order to ensure that you have a great experience.
At Chandler Dentistry your comfort is at the forefront of concern. To ensure a painless appointment and experience with us, we offer a variety of sedation methods. Each sedation method is fast acting and will keep you relaxed and pain-free throughout your procedure.
We use three different types of sedation methods: nitrous oxide sedation, oral sedation, and local anesthesia sedation.
Nitrous oxide is a gas commonly known as laughing gas that is odorless and colorless. This method reduces pain and anxiety during a procedure. The gas, combined with oxygen, is given through a mask placed over your nose and will make you feel a tingling sensation throughout your body. Your dentist will be able to control how much laughing gas you receive throughout the procedure. You are still very much conscious during the procedure so you can give us feedback on the level of pain or anxiety you are feeling. The effects of the gas wear off rather quickly; about 30 to 40 minutes.
For the oral sedation method, you are given a pill to take before your appointment that will take about an hour to kick in. This pill will make you drowsy and depending on the dose given, you could even fall asleep during the procedure. Oral sedation is a very safe way to relieve your anxiety and make sure you have a pain-free procedure.
The third method is anesthesia sedation. This monitored local anesthetic is administered with a needle to make you feel relaxed and numb the area where the procedure will take place. This anesthetic will provide enough pain relief for simple procedures such as dental fillings. You will remain conscious for the duration of the appointment and the numbness will only last for a few hours.
